AUWA was established on August 7, 2003. The University was incorporated on September 8, 2003, through an act of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia.  AUWA began operation as a two-year associate degree-granting institution at 120 Camp Johnson Road, Monrovia, its temporary site, in August 2010.  

On February 21, 2011, the university began enrolling students. One hundred and five students were enrolled, and classes began March 1, 2011. The academic program started in the following areas: Theology, Education, Nursing, Accounting, Economics, and Public Administration.

Through the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE), the Liberian government granted AUWA a bachelor's degree charter on March 18, 2013.

 

Meanwhile, on March 27, 2012, the university conducted the groundbreaking ceremony on its permanent site in Schiefflin on the Robertsfield International Highway. Furthermore, the Liberian Nursing Board and Midwifery (LNBM) granted accreditation to the nursing program in May 2013. In addition, the Adventist Accreditation Association (AAA, a membership of more than 120 universities and colleges worldwide) offered candidacy status on October 9, 2013, and later a regular accreditation in successive years.

 

The undergraduate programs have been running on the permanent site in Schiefflin town since March 22, 2015, until date.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the Administration, the Academic Senate, and the AUWA Graduate School Council, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education and the National Commission on Higher Education for granting AUWA an elevation to the Master Level of education in Liberia.
